Is Exosome Therapy Legal? Understanding Research-Use-Only and FDA Status

← Back to Research Library

One of the most important — and most misunderstood — questions about exosomes is their regulatory status. This educational overview explains the key distinctions.

Not FDA-approved as a treatment

In the United States, MSC-derived exosomes are not FDA-approved to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Products of this type are supplied for research use only (RUO).

“FDA-registered facility” is not “FDA-approved”

A facility can register its establishment with the FDA, and a manufacturer can follow a cGMP-aligned process — but neither is the same as FDA approval or endorsement of a product. Credible suppliers state this plainly.

What responsible sourcing looks like

Clear RUO labeling, per-lot documentation, and honest communication that avoids disease-treatment claims. See the published science in our Exosome Research Library.

Exosome therapy is an emerging regenerative approach. It is investigational, outcomes vary, and individual results cannot be guaranteed. Patient testimonials reflect individual experiences and are not representative of typical results.

References to regulatory standards — including Section 351(a) of the Public Health Service Act — describe the company’s stated quality and compliance approach and should not be interpreted as FDA approval or endorsement of any product.
